Kathryn Stats:
Advanced Painting Mentorship

A nine month one-on-one mentoring program

High Country Summer
High Country Summer, by Kathry Stats

"Through decades of teaching workshops, I have met many talented artists who have outgrown their training opportunities and desire more than what a class can offer. Such painters have lamented about this dilemma, voiced desires for mentoring and expressed deep frustration with limited access to master artists and critiques." - Kathryn Stats

If you are one of these artists, PROBLEM SOLVED! After many years of requests and much thought, Kathryn Stats is going to mentor a select group of artists starting in the Fall of 2018.

Eligibility: Developed professional or amateur artists who are motivated to advance their oil painting skills. Participation in the program is by invitation or referral from a master artist. Applicants must submit work for final acceptance. The program is limited to ten students with a waiting list. Selected students must have the capability to submit online high quality photographs of their work, accomplish work timely and commit to completing projects. It is our intention that each artist the program will accomplish the goals set at the beginning of the program and experience an improvement in their overall skill set and body of work.

Program Description: This individual study program is designed to meet each participant's specific needs and strengths thereby each artist will develop a direct working relationship with Kathryn Stats that spans the entire program. After the first 30 days of the program, each artist will have developed manageable and concretely defined goals for their individual study work. These goals will be different from student to student. This is NOT a one size fits all program.

The Mechanics: Each month, artists will submit work which Ms. Stats will review and provide feedback via one-on-one conference call. These personal one-on-one monthly sessions allows the artist a rare opportunity to interact with Ms. Stats on an ongoing basis. Work submitted will be any work chosen by the artist as well as specific assignments suggested by Ms. Stats. This personal approach to teaching allows Ms. Stats to get to know each artist, their work, goals, strengths and challenges. Direct contact with an internationally known master artist who can answer questions and offer solutions to painting difficulties presents a rare opportunity.

Each artist will interact directly with Ms. Stats via phone at a prearranged time. Even though there will be 10 artists selected, artists and their work will only be shared directly with Ms. Stats and the program staff, not with other students. For special issues such a competitions or exhibitions, more access to direct consultation is available.

Monthly each mentored artist will also receive a teaching module with specific goals directly targeting the needs and challenges that fit their needs. As Ms. Stats believes that at higher levels of mastery, mentoring must address the individual's versus the group's needs, such teaching modules will directly target specific strengths and challenges such as advanced understanding and assignments related to value, color harmony, temperature and vibration, composition, brushwork, and how to advance in your art career.
